We began this project with a passion for the cooler reaches of Sonoma County. One of the newest AVAs in the state, Petaluma Gap, fits that bill. The region is subject to intense maritime fog and cool breezes that intensify the fruit and make the wines individualistic and compelling. We matched this brooding style of Pinot Noir with an equally evocative name, Wine Dark Sea: The phrase first penned by Homer in the 8th Century BC. And to lend imagery, selected a contemporary work by artist Tacita Dean which we believe perfectly captures the mystery of the Pacific Coast here in Sonoma. Ruby hued, bright and rich Pinot Noir displaying the acidity and gorgeous structure of grapes grown in an extreme climate nearly equidistant between the Pacific Coast and the San Pablo Bay. Beautiful layers of forest floor, wild berries and brambly spice wrapped in a velvet robe. This wine shows how incredible a California Pinot Noir can be when grown in the right region.
